The Zefat theory of the VMS-cosmological section – 1,696 views

Following the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the end of the First Jewish Revolt 70 CE by the Romans and the displacement to Galilee of the Jewish population in Judea Jewish tradition and poems from the time record that the descendants of each priestly watch settled in different towns and villages in Galilee. The priestly family of Jakim (Joachim), the twelfth ward, established a seat in Zefat (today’s Safed). In our opinion, a member of this family (bayith), a priest or a temple scribe, was the composer of the Aramaic apocalyptical lyric placed around the images in the foldout pages 85v and 86r of the Voynich manuscript. In the following documents we constitute this idea. In the first we present our alphabet which assigns the glyphs of the neography to Aramaic phonemes as basis for the decryption, explain the method behind the decryption and give a longer transcription and translation of the lyrical text from the central image of this foldout. In the following document we give further translations and elaborate closer the acrostic included in this passage. This acrostic gives us the information about the supposed point of composition of the text. It implies that the composition of the text in Aramaic and the creation of the cipher took place in different centuries, with a probably gap of more than thousand years. Therefore, as for the cosmological part of the VMS, we have to distinguish between the composer of the lyric and the mediaeval coder and putative creator of the Voynich cipher. That naturally must not apply to the other sections of the VMS. Although it is conceivable that the apocalyptical text was composed as pseudepigraphic in Safed’s kabbalistic schools of the 16th or 17th century, it deems on the basis of the immanent acrostic less probably. Yet, an accurate appraisal remains reserved to historians and bible researchers.
